I was under the impression that bridal showers are to be a surprise to the bride (although they all know it's coming). I thought the where and when should have some surprise element to it.
I'm a bridesmaid and we're throwing the shower. The bride is insisting that the shower NOT be a surprise and has provided us 'good' dates for it to occur! She says it's so she can relax during the planning.
Is my assumption wrong?

Some bridal showers are surprises. Most are not, and there is no requirement that they be. The bride is correct that it would be more relaxing if she knew the date and could schedule appropriately. Shayna Walker, Williamsburg Wedding Design http://www.williamsburgweddingdesign.com

I agree. Perhaps in the past more were a surprise. But, today's bride usually has more on her schedule than ladies in the past. So, it makes sense that she would need to know the date. It really wouldn't make sense to plan a party the bride couldn't attend due to scheduling difficulties. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
