     Using Gifts from Shower

This is a second wedding and we have been together for 7 1/2 years and living together for 6 1/2. I was told I could not use any of my shower gift until after I'm married. Is this true? There is no chance that the wedding will be cancelled. Please let me know. My living room is stacking up with gifts and my wedding isn't for another month and a half.

Yes, it is not considered proper to use any shower or wedding gifts until after the wedding. I'm sure it will not be cancelled but honestly, one never knows what the future holds, and as such etiquette states that brides should wait to use gifts until after the wedding.

Perhaps, if you're running out of room, you could store the gifts at the home of a family member or friend.

Thank you for your response. I understand the etiquette, but I have several people who have asked me to start enjoying their gifts. Wouldn't that be okay with their ascent?

Of course we never want to think negatively but if for some reason the marriage does not take place you would be obliged to return the wedding gifts. You would not be able to return these gifts if they were used.
