My fiance's aunts have offered to throw me a shower. The date is set and the location apparently. My future mother in law is the one who put together the invitation list. I have not been asked who I would like to invite. I will not be having a bridal party but would like to invite some close friends. When my future mother in law then said that it would be inappropriate to invite my aunt, cousin and another female family member since my aunt might be throwing me a shower (which would be for my own young friends only) and inviting people to two showers is not acceptable.
I am ready to say thanks but no thanks on the shower. Any advice???

Re: [b2be] Who decides who is invited to your shower?

Family members should not be hosting a shwoer for you unless they are members of your bridal party. This is a perfect reason why they shouldn't host.
Typically, when a shower is hosted, the bride is asked for a list of those she would like to invite. Then, the host decided how many she can comfortably host and makes the guest list accordingly. The guest list should be small (no more than 30 guests) and only those closest to the bride and groom should be invited.
I would go along with your first instinct, "thanks, but no thanks" idea.
