     courthouse wedding

I am thinking of getting married at courthouse, and next year having a wedding. Should I have a bridal shower?

Mandy:

If you are getting married at the courthouse then whatever service you have after that will not be another wedding since you'll already be married. The service would either be a vow renewal ceremony or, if marrying in the church, a blessing of your marriage.

Now, a bridal shower is an optional event which should be hosted by someone other than you or a family member so someone would have to offer to host this for you. But, only those actually invited to the wedding ceremony should be invited to the bridal shower. A vow renewal or blessing of marriage is not considered a gift giving event so you woulkdn't have a shower for either of those services.

If you want to have the wedding with all of the trimmings you should go ahead and schedule it or wait until next year and get married then.
