     gift certificate

I was invited to a shower for my boyfriend's good friend's wife-to-be. My boyfriend's mother was also invited. In the invitation, in addition to mentioning where the bride was registered, they mentioned that gift cards to specific stores would be appreciated. What is a proprer amount of money to spend on a gift card, considering my boyfriend is in the wedding (but not the best man). I would appreciate any advice on an acceptible amount. Thanks

Dear Gift Cards,

It really is never appropriate to mention gift card preferences in an invitation. Sorry.

There is no appropriate amount to spend on these either. Some will consider the amount generous and some will consider it to be lacking. Brides usually register for gift cards at stores in their preferred amounts. So, you may find your answer at the store's web site.

Best wishes,
