Do we have to saty at the hotel after the wedding

The mother of the bride says that I have to stay downtown at the hotel when I only live 20 minutes away. I have a husband and child. She says that she can stay in the room with the paid daycare attendant and that we are going to the bar after the reception from midnight till 2 am. The wedding starts at 3pm. My whole family will be exhausted and I know that the wedding couple will probably not make it that long, just from previous experiences. Do I have to stay at the hotel, it's 129 a night. Can't I just attend and go home with my family?

I don't see any reason you should have to stay at the hotel. I'm not getting if you are a member of the bridal party or a guest, but, as long as you perform your duties if you are an attendant or, attend the wedding and reception as a guest, you can leave the reception and go home. It's your choice. Personally, I would never leave my child in a hotel with a babysitter unless it was an emergency, but, that is an opinion, not etiquette. If your child is not invited, please leave her at home with a babysitter.

Perhaps she was just suggesting?

no I am not a member of the party. I am just a guest.

But she wants my room to be adjoining so she can use it for the bridesmaids to get ready.

My husband and I and daughter just want to attend the wedding. My daughter was invited also to the wedding and was told she could come and see the receptiong for a little while but she should spend most of the time with the daycare attendant. This was said by the mob not the bride. But I don't feel comfortable having my child with some stranger...and I don't want a room even though she already put one one her card and said I could pay for it later when I check in... I have said I don't want a room What do I do now?

I don't know what your relationship is with the bride and her mother but she's being really pushy. All you can do is tell her the truth. You will not be bringing the baby (she will stay home with a sitter of your choosing) and you will be going home to her after the reception. Don't leave the door open for any discussion. I think you can do this in a pleasant manner. Hopefully, as a mother, she will understand your position.
