sending bridal shower gift if not attending

My husband's cousin's daughter is getting married. We are not close to this family at all. They live about an hour and a half away. We have been invited to the wedding but are not able to attend. I have also been invited to a shower. I will not be attending the shower either. My question is should I send a gift for the shower? I am planning on sending something for the wedding.

Dear Gifting,

The traditional thinking is yes, you should. However, I do not believe that an invitation obligates anyone to give a gift. So, it is your choice.

Best wishes,
