I am a bridesmaid throwing a shower and i have read MANY of the postings here. I read that the bride should not be involved in the inviting, but also strict rules on only inviting people who are invited to the wedding. How do I know who is invited to the wedding? The wedding is in Nov and the shower is in July due to the bride being back in her home town during the summer. The guest list might not even be finalized. I need to send out invitations soon! Also, i know there are some friends who will not be able to attend the out of town wedding due to $$ and small children but I am sure they would love to be part of the shower...do they get invited?
Usually the host will ask the bride for a list of those invited to the wedding that she would like to be invited to the shower. The host informs the bride how many guests she will host (no more than 35). If the bride doesn't know who will be invited to her wedding, the shower shouldn't be held as only those invited to the wedding may be invited.
If you know for a fact that someone will not attend the wedding, it is not polite to invite them to the shower, as the shower's 'real' purpose these days is to generate excitement about the wedding.
