thank you note to bridal shower guest who didn't bring a gift

What is proper etiquette for someone who was invited to the shower and came, but came with nothing and towards the end of the shower.

Do I send her a thank you note for coming? Am I required to send her a thank you note at all?

Dear Clavin,

You are only obligated to send thank you notes to those who gave you a gift.

Best wishes,

Thank you! I was told I should send her one but I also did not feel that I had to. She never goes to anything so I wasn't sure because she did come.

If this is someone who is special to you, and you think she went out of her way to attend, you could write her a letter or email letting her knoww you appreciated her company and hopefully you'll see her at the wedding. It shouldn't be a traditional thank you note. Sending one of those may highlight the fact that she did not bring a gift.

Well, it is a cousin who is about 10-12 years younger than me and she doesn't really attend any family functions so she is not someone with whom I am close. Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated!
