     who is to be invited

I am being given conflicting advice regarding whom I should invite to the bridal shower. My family and friends are included but I added wives of my finaces friends to the list whom I do not know well thinking this was proper, but I am being told that it should only be people I am close to or family. Also what is considered an acceptable amount to invite.

Dear who is to be invited,

"A shower is an intimate gathering of friends (and family) gathering to extend good wishes to the bride, the couple or even just the groom."

Perhaps the wives would be a bit uncomfortable in this close circle of friends.

I completely agree. Many of today's showers are becoming grand events. And, this defeats the purpose of the shower.
