When to have the Shower? (Two wedding ceremonies in two countries, 6 months apart)

I would like to host my friend's daughter's bridal shower, but we are not sure on the when?...

Katelyn and Mic will marry in his hometown in Australia on December 12, 2009 and they will return 6 months later to Canada to have a recommitment ceremony on June 12, 2010 for her Canadian friends and family.

Her mother and I want to be appropriate for this set of circumstances -

Please help - thank you!

Dear RNewell,

A shower would be inappropriate for a married couple. Also, a friend of the mother shouldn't host as it is too much as if she is hosting.

A vow renewal is not a gift giving event. Plus, six months really isn't a bench mark anniversary. They really don't have anything to re-commit to. It would be better if they just hosted a reception. This can be hosted any time within the first year.

Best wishes,
