my friend is getting married and will move internationally just after the wedding. since their things will be packed and ready to go, i was wondering what the options are in terms of gifts. i'm the moh and don't want the bride/groom to be burdened with having to find a way to get all the wedding gifts to their new home abroad. any ideas/themes that might work? i should mention that this will all need to be done by april, 2005 and that i live across the country from the bride and won't see her until the big weekend.
I'm guessing by your subject line that you are asking about shower gifts. So, if this is the case, you can list registries on a shower invitation. This may help. You can't list gift cards, because there is no way to do this politely. But, the bride could register for gift cards at the stores.
If the guests know the Bride and Groom will be moving, I'm sure they will be considerate when purchasing gifts.
For a theme, you could have a lot of fun with an International theme, having food from different countries. Find out some interesting facts about all the different bridal traditions and quiz the guests, or have them try to match different languages with their translation for "congratulations".
Whatever theme you decide, center it around the food or the games, but not the gifts (since this seems to be the hard part)
