Best way to pack/ship my wedding dress overseas

We live here, but are getting married at home in the United Kingdom. My dress is a whirlwind by Ulla Maija, if you know this dress it's quite large. The flight is almost 7 hours. I did think maybe the cabin crew will hang it if I write to the airline, but I have a feeling this will take up to much space. I just want to ensure my dress arrives with as few crease/wrinkles as possible and safely. How is the best way to pack and ship the dress ? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also once I arrive home, is it best to just hang the dress to get the creases out ? The store did not recommend I have it professionally ironed.

Hello Weezie:

Try caling the airline and see what they suggest and how helpful they seem to be first.

When you arrive back home consider having your gown professionally cleaned and preserved.

Ask the boutique if you can steam the dress too. Ask the boutique where you bought your dress to stuff the dress as much as possible, and to please put it in a garment bag for you.

Call the airline and ask them if they can accommodate you with extra room. I'm sure they will be able to with notice.
