Booking and paying Wedding Officiant's Accomodations
Good Morning!
I reviewed the questions listed on the forums and did not find this one specifically. I apologize if this is a duplicate question.
Our officiant said he does not charge members of his church or their children (my mother is a member) for performing their service and said that any honorarium is up to us. We plan to pay for his accommodations and give an honorarium in addition. Should we go ahead and book and pay for hotel reservations for him and give him the information, or should we ask him to let us know where he would prefer to stay and then include the expense for the accommodations in the honorarium?
I do not want to make the decision for him if that is not proper, however, I want him to rest assured that we plan to cover the cost (I had thought of perhaps just including it in his honorarium but he mentioned that he might consider paying for his own accommodations as a wedding gift to us and I do not want him to think that we are expecting him to do so. Waiting to give him the expenses along with the honorarium after the service might make it appear that we did not consider this or plan to pay).
I do hope that all made sense!
Thank you very much for your time in answering (and for your answers to so many other questions on this forum which I have found very helpful in my planning. I would be a nervous, cranky, bridezilla of a mess without you. )

Dear TybeeGA,
You really have thought all of this out and are very gracious. I honestly doubt you'd be a bridezilla.
It would be best if he didn't have to make any arrangements himself and you booked the hotel and gave him the details in advance.
