We are planning to have a cruise wedding to Mexico. We plan to pay for only our parents, siblings and grandparents (12 people in all) to attend. We are both working our way through college, so money is tight and we don't want either of our parents to pay for the wedding. We also do not want to have a large at home wedding because neither of us are very close with our more distant relatives.
How can we word an ivitation to the rest of our friends and family to tell them that we'd like them to attend, but as our budget is small we cannot afford to bring them all with us? But if the have the means to attend, we'd love to see them there?
You really are only obligated to pay for your attendant's lodging. So, you don't have to pay for anyone else.
You would be inviting your guests to your wedding the same as anyone else does to any other wedding. It may be best to send save the dates and include travel information with a travel agent contact number for your guests. This way they know that they need to book it to attend your wedding. This really is the only time our guests pay to attend a wedding.
It is also a very good idea and polite to provide something (usually a reception) for those traveling and paying to attend.
