Delivering welcome gifts to destination wedding guests
Hello!
My fiance and I are getting married next January in Williamsburg, VA. While we don't really consider the wedding to be a destination wedding (the majority of my family lives in Williamsburg), much of his family, and all of our friends will be traveling to celebrate with us. In addition to the favors that we will give to each of our guests, we would like to give our out-of-town guests a welcome gift (we were thinking some local Virginia peanuts, area coupons, etc). However, the hotel that we have recommended for our guests charges $3 per guest to deliver this gift, and they will not hand it out at the front desk when guests check in. This seems quite exorbitant to me, but perhaps this is common practice.
Do you have any suggestions regarding how we could distribute these packages? We were thinking about asking some family members to deliver them door to door to the hotel rooms, but thought that our guests may find this creepy (perhaps they don't want their room number to be common knowledge). Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Dear Sarahbee81, it is unfortunate that the hotel is putting a price on your welcome for your guests. Many hotels do the same and I would not recommend that you have them delivered to the rooms because the hotel will not provide room numbers to you. What I have seen done is setting up a hospitality room in the hotel where guests can gather and collect their welcome gift at the same time. Sometimes, the cost of the room is as prohibitive as paying for the gifts to be delivered. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com
Thank you for your response! My fiance will have a room at the hotel the day before the wedding. Would it be appropriate to have a "welcoming party" in his room for an hour or so to allow guests to pick up their welcome gifts? The logistics will have to be ironed out, but I would just like to make sure this would not be viewed as improper. Thanks!
