Destination Wedding- Wording for Notification of Canceled Reception
My husband and I were married last March down in Mexico. We had sent out invitations prior to that stating that there would be a reception back in MN at a later date. We never got around to planning the reception and have decided not to have one now since so much time has passed. My mother would like to send out a note informing everyonethat the reception has been cancelled. How do we word this note or are we even obligated to send one? Any help would be much appreciated!

Dear JGracey,
You, in affect, invited guests to a party. So, since the party is canceled, it is only polite to inform your guests. Simple wording is best. Just state that the reception will not be held and sorry for the inconvenience.
It really isn't too late though. Any time within the first year is fine. You would just forego many of the traditional elements.
