We are planning a destination wedding in either Mexico or the Caribbean. Is it appropriate to register for gifts when our guests (except for my attendants) are spending money to fly and stay at a nice resort? If so, how do we word on our wedding website that we would like our gifts sent to our home (since we are having a large wedding and would not be able to travel home with that number of gifts) Thanks!

It's perfectly fine to register for destination weddings as long as you are inviting guests. Only those invited to the wedding are expected to send a gift. Proper etiquette for wedding gifts for any wedding, not just destination weddings, is to send the gift to the home of the bride before the wedding. Unfortunately, not every guest is up on proper etiquette. So, if someone does bring a gift (and, let's face it, who would want to lug a gift on a plane anyway?) then you'll have to arrange to ship it back home if you cannot carry it.
You will not post anything about gifts on your wedding website except information about where you're registers, which should not be on the home page.
