My sister and her fiance have decided a month ago (wedding date is 1 month from now) to go to out of country to have their wedding. This was mainly due to the fact they were able to go elsewhere for a wedding that is much less than here. They informed their immediate family that we were all welcome to come at our own expense. No one is able to come for financial reasons.
This is a second marriage for both and both had typical weddings the first time.
I had mentioned they may want to have a small reception/party when they return for just close family or guests and they think it is a great idea but will not have the funds to host it, nor believe they should - they believe that the family should do so.
With the wedding date now 1 month away, I talked to my mother and we are thinking about hosting a party to invite close friends and family that happen to be coming into town for other reasons, in 2 weeks.
We considered doing nothing as both said 'oh, don't bother...' but I know my sister would be hurt if something was not done.
Note: They really do not 'need' anything house-wise as they have been living together for 2.5 years now.
Are gifts appropriate on the invitations? (they are not registered anywhere)

Gifts are never mentioned on a wedding invitation. This is posted throughout the website. Please use the search to locate answers before posting. Thanks for making our jobs a little easier and helping us help as many as possible.
