My fiancee and I are planning a destination wedding. We have a small amount of family and friends attending. I learned tonight that a good portion of our guests will be staying almost the entire length of our stay at the same resort. My future sister-in-law and her husband are planning on arriving before us and staying the whole trip. They are arriving on the 8th, the bride and groom and the rest of the guests arrive on the 10th. The wedding is on the 13th and they are not leaving until the 15th - which will leave my new bride and me not even two full days to ourselves. Are the guests overstepping? I understand the whole "turn it in to a vacation thing", but to stay at the same resort the entire time and arriving before us seems a little much to me. Am I being selfish?
Thanks

I think this is a challenge with any destination wedding. Your guests are making the financial investment and are trying to get the most out of their investment. I say, relax, enjoy and do the best you can to plan activities that involve only you and your bride. I know you can be creative and make it special. Best wishes. I agree. This is one of the the big trade offs with the destination wedding. The couple usually saves money combining the wedding and honeymoon and on wedding planning costs. But, their guests incur much more of the costs. So, they are entitled to stay as long as they wish. Logically, they should plan their vacation around your wedding. They probably won't get another chance for a vacation after spending this much on you and your wedding. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
