I'm hoping to have a destination wedding but really don't want to host my reception at a hotel. Am I setting myself up for a logistical nightmare? Do you know what % of destination weddings have their receptions in hotels?
You should figure out what destination you want to get married in first, then you can begin the process of figuring out what options you have for your reception. If you work with a local destination wedding specialist, chances are that she can set you up with a few alternatives to the hotel-based reception.
Once you know where you're going, you can find people who arrange weddings in your destination of choice. You can still work with a travel agent to make travel and accommodations arrangements for you and your guests so you can focus on the ceremony and reception with your local wedding coordinator. Thanks. So then there is a good supply of non-hotel reception venues at typical destination wedding locations? I was under the impression that if I had my wedding in the caribbean, for example, that my only option was to have the reception at a resort. Any thoughts of what non-hotel reception venues would be in the caribbean?
If you are even considering a destination wedding, hire a professional wedding planner, or you may get a cookie cutter wedding. Chose your destination and then contact the visitor's bureau for information on destination specialists (wedding planner).
