Does Groom Pay for Marriage License for Destination Wedding?
My mother mentioned to me the other day that the groom is traditionally responsible for the cost of the marriage license and I checked the threads here to verify. However, the costs of legally getting married in Italy, where we've chosen to get married, are very expensive. There is the translating of documents, translator fees and the fee for the town hall (most expensive part) which ultimately results in our marriage license. So which part is the cost that the groom is responsible for paying? My family is already paying for a significant part of the wedding and 3 receptions (in Italy and in each of our home states). My mother just wants to make sure my groom is following proper etiquette here. Any help would be great!

Dear Whitblitz,
If we are following traditional, old etiquette, then yes. But today, all costs are supposed to be the couple's obligation. So, in affect, you and your fiancee are responsible for all costs, not your parents or hers.
