My fiancee and I have decided to get married in Varadero, Cuba in September, 2005. This is not an elopement, as we are bringing a few close friends and family with us to witness the exchanging of our vows. We decided upon a destination wedding because of finances (we are paying for everything ourselves) and for stress. (or lack of it)
My question is: we are going to be holding a lovely reception for friends and family in December, 2005 (about 2.5 months after our wedding date) and I need to know how to word the invitations to the reception (or course they will be going out after we are married) Do I use my married name in the invitations? Do I put my maiden name in the invitations? When we are ordering things like napkins and favors, do I use the wedding date in varadero to be scrolled, or the date of the reception? And my mother suggested we still register at stores..... my fiancee doesn't think people should buy us a gift since we are getting married elsewhere. I say that it is still a wedding reception, and registering is still acceptable.
Any other advice would be so helpful..... thank you very much!

Dear Getting Married in Cuba,
You would use your married name. A good choice of wording could be: Mr. and Mrs. Married Name request the pleasure of your company at our reception, date, location.
It doesn't really matter which you mention the date of your wedding or reception, but it seems as if you would want the wedding to be emphasized in some way. But, it is your choice.
You may absolutely register. There are probably many who would wish to give you something and they would be pleased to have some direction.

Thank you very much for your help! Just one last thing... if addressing the reception invitations as Mr and Mrs so and so..... do I run the risk of people not knowing who I am? (Relatives that I don't have daily contact with)
Thanks again!

Dear Getting Married,
There is nothing wrong with calling them to let them know you are getting married and to expect an invitation to the reception. Other than that, you could enclose a personal letter. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
