Must we buy a gift for reception following destination wedding?
I was asked to be the MOH for my brother's destination wedding in Jamaica. There was one other bridesmaid besides me. I threw the bride a shower, bought a gift, gave her a bachelorette party and paid for my fiance and myself to fly and stay in Jamaica for a week; not to mention the purchase our passports. We also had to have our dresses made, I paid for my fiance's outfit (he was in the wedding too). I made food for my brother's bachelor party as well as chipping in for the limo and helping set-up. I'd say, as of now, I've paid about $5000 towards their wedding. I'm getting married myself in 6 months and have been focused on their wedding so much, I've kind of neglected my own. Anyway, they are also having a reception back at home. Am I obligated to buy them a wedding gift as well? I just feel like I've already done/spent so much on their wedding, is it really necessary to get them another gift? Will they understand if I don't?
Thanks.

Dear FarminRaeRae,
A wedding gift is expected. All of the other things you did were not, those parties and most expenses were optional. The gift could be inexpensive and a shared gift with the other bridesmaid.
The couple is responsible for your lodging for at least two days. I hope they realize this.
