Neighbour has invited herself to our destination wedding!

Neighbour has invited herself to our destination wedding!

Please help. The neighbour across the street from my parents has invited herself to our destination wedding. She is a nice woman, but my family and I all agree that she is only nice in small doses. She and my mom talk a lot, and she usually comes over for Christmas eve, but she has a tendancy to drink too much, and she even cries when she drinks! We are considering an all-inclusive resort, so all I can imagine is a week of her drunken crying.

If my mother wanted her to come, I would absolutely accomodate her, but the fact is, none of us want her there. I feel that she will be pushing herself into the private family moments (she refers to herself as "aunt", even though my sister and I have never thought of her in that regard, and have never referred to her as such), and would tax my time away from my Mom.

Also, this will be my Mom's second all-inclusive vacation ever, and she hasn't been away since 1997. I want her to be able to enjoy her week with her sisters and sisters-in-law, free from having to babysit this neighbour. This neighbour is extremely clingy.

How do I tell her that she isn't invited? Her being there is clearly not an option.

Please help!

Sometimes the truth is best. But, you can soften it a bit by explaining that the venue you have selected is a very small one and the guest list is very limited. You're sorry, you wish you could invite her, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Good luck!

I agree. Weddings are often just very small, intimate affairs. So, it is very understandable if you were to limit your guest list to those who are very close.
