We received a save the date card for a close relative's destination wedding in Mexico. We just found out that the couple will not actually be getting married in Mexico and have no idea when or where they will actually get married (before or after the Mexico event). Does this seem unusual? Family members and friends will incur considerable expense to attend this event and we think everyone should know in advance that it is not actually a wedding - any thoughts?

Re: [mokuhale] No wedding ceremony at the Destination Wedding

Dear Mokuhale,
You are exactly right that events such as this are not fair to the guests and so many 'hosts' do not realize or want to realize it. It isn't usual or appropriate, but unfortunately I must say we have seen many do it.
It is your choice to attend or not. You could also call to find out what they are really planning since it is not a wedding.
I sincerely hope others who plan these 'fake' weddings read your post. It may be an eye opener for them to read how their guests may view their event.
