I've searched and searched and cant seem to find an answer to my question!
My fiancee and I are planning a destination wedding and both of our parents have given us money to use for the wedding it as we see fit.
Should we be paying for their flight/lodging/meals with this money? I think it seems rude to take their money and then ask them to shell out more for the expenses. Any advice?

Dear Drakela,
It does seem a bit impolite to expect them to pay more money to attend your wedding. But, you are not obligated to pay their costs. The money they gave you was to pay for your wedding. If you used the money to cover their costs, it would deplete that nest egg they gave you. But, it is your choice. If you feel you have enough money to do this, it would be a very nice gesture--and very fair.

I would ask them the same way you asked here. Let them know you respect them this much and appreciate their gifts. That will go a long way with parents. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
