     Reception before the wedding ceremony?

My daughter is planning a destination wedding in Las Vegas. She wants to have the reception before the wedding . Cocktails at 5:30pm than dinner and dancing. At midnight she wants to have the actual wedding ceremony so they can have the Vegas lights and 10-10-10 date. We do not think having a reception before the wedding is proper. What do you think of this backward idea? I need some advice.Unsure

Dear bonniejen,

It isn’t proper to host the reception before the wedding. However, if the wedding is a part of the reception activities, it is fine. It sounds like she is not actually doing this though. She would have to begin her reception later in order for her wedding to appear as part of the festivities. It would be much better if she hosted her wedding on 10-10 and followed it with a reception.

Best wishes,
