Renewing vows the week after destination wedding

We are going to get married in Las Vegas. We invited both sets of parents. His parents will be there but mine wont be. My mom has a fear of flying. My parents want us to renew our vows the following weekend at the reception, In front of everyone? Is this a good idea?

I'm sorry that you will not have your parents there with you are you marry. You may want to re-think the ceremony location if having both sets of parents witnessing the vows is important to you.

This is a bit too soon to renew vows. After all, what is there to renew? Typically a vow renewal takes place after a rift in a relationship, a separation, illness or significant anniversary. If your parents cannot make the trip , and you are set on marrying in Vegas, then videotape the ceremony and play it for your parents. A reception after the fact is a fine idea too. Playing the video at the reception can make everyone happy.
