     Save-the-Date Cards

My wedding is April 30, 2005 in Charleston, SC - we live in Houston, TX. I am trying to figure out when to send out the save the date cards. The hotel suggested a year in advance, but I decided to wait. Our dilemma is that my fiance's cousin is getting married on Sept. 25, 2004 in Amarillo, TX and everyone is trying to make plans for that wedding now. Should I hold off on mailing the save the date cards until after their wedding or does it not really make a difference?

Thanks.

We normally recommend that couples notify their guests 6-9 months prior to their destination wedding. I don't see any problem with waiting until after the September wedding. The only advantage to notifying guests prior would be that you could answer any questions about your wedding in April at the wedding of your fiancee's cousin.

I don't believe you will be offending your cousin or infringing on "their wedding time" by sending your save the date cards now, giving your guests plenty of time to plan.
