My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding and are trying to decide who to send save the date cards and invitations to. Should we send save the date cards and invitations out to everyone we would of invited if we had the wedding at home or only to guest we think will be able to attend? I have a large family and we both have a large group of friends and we don't want anyone to feel left out.
This gets tricky because you want to let everyone know that they are invited and you do not want to make the decision of whether they will be able to afford the expense involved. First you have to know the total number your venue can accomodate just as you would in a hometown wedding. Once you have that figure, build your guest list just as you would for a hometown wedding. Send the Save the Date no later than 6 months in advance and then the invitation no later than 2 months before the wedding. I agree. This is much the same as a home wedding. Invite those you want to attend. Plus, please remember that all who receive a save the date also receives an invitation. Additionally, the save the date is not an invitation, so there is no RSVP on these. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
