Second reception for family in another state.

My fiance and I are marrying in Las Vegas, which my parents and his parents and our friends will be going to. My fiance's family live in Arizona and California, the problem is most of my extended family lives in Maryland and we live in Arizona. My father does not believe my extended family in Maryland will be able to make it to Las vegas because of cost, or Arizona for that matter (flight/lodging/ etc). My question is, is it okay to have a second reception in Maryland for my family and not formally invite them to the wedding, if they already know a recepition will be held in Maryland . We can not afford to pay for a 200 person wedding, hence the smaller reception for this large extended family. We planned on a second reception at my aunts home in Maryland that can accomadate the family well.
