Sending destination wedding invitations 6 months in advance

What is the standard length of time you should give your guests when inviting them to a destination wedding?

My fiance have the chance to get an earlier date (and a lower price!) on our venue. Is 6 months enough advance notice to invite people to a destination wedding?

The majority of guests can drive (it's 5 hours away) and a few friends/family will have to fly. I have heard we should give them a year; but how soon is too soon?

Thanks!

You wouldn't send invitations this early. These go out 2 months before the wedding. You could send Save the Dates now. But, these don't include a RSVP. They should include the travel information with a contact who can make arrangements. This way you will know who is attending and who isn't.

Best wishes,
