Sending save the date cards 2 years in advance for destination wedding

My fiance and I currently live in New Jersey, and we are having a destination wedding in California. Can we send the save the date cards out 2 years in advance?

All of our guests are from South Jersey/Philadelphia area, so, ideally, we want to give our guests enough time to maybe make it into a vacation, or just to save up money to be able to attend.

When should save the dates be sent?
Thanks so much!

Dear Tami,

That is very thoughtful, but it is quite a bit early. It is best to wait, perhaps a year in advance. But, you could email everyone on your list and let them know. There is a problem with this though. Plans change and you might be contacting people who may not be invited to the actual wedding.

Best wishes,
