Should we invite friends to destination wedding if planning a US reception too?

Hello,

Thanks for the huge amount of information you provide in this website. After reading about 15 pages of destination wedding questions I still hadn't found an answer to my question.
My fiance and I are having a destination wedding in Ecuador (that's where I am originally from)We do not have a bridal party (not a custom in Ecuador) but we're not sure if we have to pay for accommodations and or flight for the guests? We also are thinking of having a small reception in the US after our wedding in Ecuador so with that in mind, should we invite our US Friends or should we altogether save it for the small reception we're planning to have here?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question.

Dear Ivinluki,

You can invite anyone you wish to either event. It is not polite to invite guests to the wedding and not the reception, unless you are hosting one at the wedding.

You are not obligated to pay for your guests' expenses to attend your wedding. The only exception is when there is a "day fee" like we see with all inclusive resorts. A guest should never have to pay an admittance fee.

Best wishes,
