     Shower/reception for destination wedding

My fiance and I have decided to have a private ceremony, just the two of us, in the Florida Keys. Offers of a shower have been offered by my family members. My husband and I will be living on the other side of the country and a reception after the wedding might not be possible. What would be the best solution to satisfy the want for celebration of the event?

Dear FairSemele,

There should be no showers, as only those invited to the wedding may be invited to one. Also, family shouldn't host.

You could host a reception any time within the first year of your wedding. Other than that, you can host any non gift giving event to celebrate your wedding after you are married.

Best wishes,
