Transportation for Locals at a Destination Wedding
Are we responsible to provide transportation to natives for our wedding? It involves additional cost but more importantly, we are on a tight time schedule for sunset. My idea was to simply offer cabs to get back to their cars which will be no more than 1/2 mile away or they carpool. If one leaves their car at the ceremony and the other has it available at the reception then they can simply drive them back. What's your advice? BTW, we are providing RT transportation from the hotel for all of our guests, should we just ask them to meet there if they want transportation?
Thanks

Dear New Bride 05,
I'm not entirely sure that I completely understand your question but I'll try. I think what you're saying is should you provide transportation between the ceremony and reception site for locals. I would say that it is not necessary. You've taken care of your out of town guests and yes just let them know what time and where to meet the transportation. From an etiquette point of view, I completely agree.
It was wonderful of you to provide so much for your guests and to be so courteous.

Hi Nancy, let me try and clarify the sequence of events:
The out of town guests will be transported from the hotel to the pier where they will catch a boat to the private island for the wedding ceremony. Then all(locals and out of towners) guests will be transported from the island to the reception site by boat which is about 1/2 mile away. At the end of the reception, the guests will be transported back to the hotel.
The island people, if they meet at the pier, will not have their cars available at the reception site. Their cars will be at the pier.
Our options are:
1) Have everyone meet at the hotel for transportation and all get dropped off back at the hotel.
2) Have the bus drop off out of town hotel guests and then make a seperate trip to get the locals at the reception site so they can have their cars there at the end of the reception.
3) If the locals leave their cars at the pier, simply have the bus make one stop to drop them off first then proceed to the hotel to drop of the out of town guests.
4) Don't worry about the locals? If they opt to go to the pier let them worry about getting back to their cars.
