Hi,My family is from Phila, PA. My brother moved to Michigan and so his future in laws are in Michigan. The small wedding for 17 immediate family members is in Michigan which is just a rehearsal dinner, ceremony and dinner for 17 people. We are required to stay 4 nights. With flight/hotel/car rental, we are spending over $3000 for this trip. What dollar amount range of wedding gift is required? If the wedding was at home, I would give $500. This wedding and honeymoon were paid for by both sets of parents. Help!

What gift you give for a wedding should be based solely on your relationship with the couple and your budget. There are no magic equations to come up with a dollar value for a gift. If they have registered then scan their registry and select something you can afford and which will show your care for the couple. (Note - wedding gifts are sent to the home of the bride before the wedding).
If either of you are members of the bridal party then the bridal couple should be paying for two nights lodging for you. Otherwise, it is your decision to travel and incur the cost.
Gifts should be given from the heart, not the pocketbook.
Have a safe trip. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

I completely agree. And, this really isn't a destination wedding. It really is our reality in our United States. We tend to live a long distance from each other. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
