When to send reception invitations after private destination wedding
My fiancee and I have decided to go away (USVI St. Thomas) to get married, just the two of us. We would like to have a party or a cookout a few weeks after we return to celebrate with our family and friends. We aren't sure when to send out the invitations for the cookout. Do we let them know that we are being married in a private ceremony and would like them to celebrate once we return? Or do we send them an invite once we've returned and then let them know that we were married in a private ceremony and would like them to celebrate with us? We really aren't sure what to do.
Thanks for your help!!!

Dear Mamap,
These invitations would be just like any other reception-only invitations. These don't include information about the wedding and are sent 6 weeks before the event. However, if this is a very informal event and your guests don't have to travel far (fly in or find lodging), your invitations could be sent a few weeks (3-4) before your event. But still, I wouldn't mention the wedding. It is a "no-brainer" that you will be married by the date of the reception.
