We are planning a destination wedding for summer of 2008. We would like to send out announcements letting people know that we will be getting married - where, when. We want to do this to let everyone know what we are doing. It is my second marriage but my fiance's first. So I know his family would like to join us in celebrating. My question is how do we word it to let our families and friends know that they are more than welcome to celebrate this happy occasion with us, but my fiance and I will not be paying for their way there or accommodations. If we are not paying for anything should we just tell them by word of mouth or should we send out the announcement?
Thank you!

An announcement is sent after the wedding. If you are inviting guests, an invitation is sent. You are not under any obligation to pay for your guests' accommodation or travel costs. You are only obligated to pay for your attendant's lodging expenses. It may be best to read our many posts on this subject.
It is also expected that you provide your guests with something if they travel. The 'something' is usually a reception, but can be as little as a welcome cocktail.
