invitations for destination wedding with no follow-up reception at home.
If I am planning on having a destination wedding in Aruba with no follow up reception at home, what is the proper invitation protocal? Do I send a "save the date" to everyone followed by a formal invitation. Or should I be selective to some guests that I know will most likely attend the destination wedding and only send announcements for the others?

As we have said on many other posts, send invitations to anyone you wish to invite, allowing them to decide if they will attend. However, you should have some sort of reception after the wedding in Aruba since your guests will be traveling for your wedding. it's nice to offer at least a cocktail reception, cake and punch or any refreshments afterwards. If it were my wedding, I would want to treat anyone willing to travel. Plus, I would want to celebrate with them.
Send announcements to anyone who doesn't get an invitations, and only if they need to be informed that you were married. Send only to those close to you, not the long lost relatives or friends since it may seem like a plea for gifts, even though the recipient is really not obligated to send a gift. Great advice that is spot on.
Also, please note that some all inclusive resorts charge a "day use fee" for those wedding guests not staying in the resort. It is impolite to expect guests to pay to attend your wedding. So, please find out if this is an issue.
