invitations vs. save-the-dates for destination wedding
We're having a wedding in early July at an all-inclusive resort, and need to book the resort soon to qualify for early-bird rates (as well as to secure the rooms we need). As such, we were planning to send invitations in the next couple of weeks to confirm the # of rooms needed, and to give our guests plenty of time to get passports updated, get Hep A&B shots, etc.
However, we know that invitations are typically only sent a couple of months in advance of the wedding. Given that we need to know how many ppl. are coming in order to reserve the hotel rooms, should we go ahead and send the invitations a.s.a.p., or should we do something else, like send an email "save-the-date", with a link to our wedding website, where ppl. can RSVP?
Thanks!

Re: [canucksurfer] invitations vs. save-the-dates for destination wedding

Dear Canucksurfer,
Typically a save the date with all of the information and a contact name and number so they can arrange travel is sent this early. It would be best if someone other than you are arranging all of this, like a travel agent. Perhaps you could verbally inform all of your guests as well, letting them know about the early bird special and the need to decide quickly and make their reservations.
Please note that with many all inclusive resorts, those not staying at the resort must pay a day use fee in order to attend the wedding. You would be responsible for this fee. Be careful with your planning.
