A friend of the bride has decided to throw a SURPRISE lingerie shower the night before the wedding. We have already happily thrown her a couples shower and endured rising costs for travel to the event. Is it wrong to not want to participate in this one? This friend has not had the chance to participate in all of the other showers, etc. & I can't help but think it's a last-ditch effort to do something nice for the bride- BUT on the night before the wedding?? The guests are flying in from all over & are going to want time to see the bride & groom right? Family will want time to celebrate together. Why steal away into this "ladies night" type event? This feels inappropriate. To top it off, the invite was sent via email, no request for RSVP, therefore assuming that since we will all be on the resort- we have no choice but to attend. We don't even think the bride will want to go along with this one. Since this well-intending friend is obviously lacking in the taste dept.....HOW DO WE bow out of this gracefully & tastefully?

Re: [emilie00] surprise shower at destination wedding?

A surprise the night before the wedding..YIKES!
This is not a good idea since the bride will want to be rested before the big day and she may have other plans such as the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner which are typically done the day before.
Please try to talk this person out of throwing this party and don't feel obligated to attend. These showers are optional. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
