wedding party size for destination wedding?

I am planning a destination wedding for next April in Mexico. I am expecting that there will be about 60-70 guests in attendance. Do I need to stick to past etiquette and only ask 1 friend to be in my wedding party? My fiance and I do not feel confined by tradition, although in this case he suggests I have no more than 3 girls, yet I have 5 in mind that I couldn't imagine not having by my side for this celebration. It's not about obligations or not wanting to hurt feelings, I feel it's impossible to choose 3 among the 5.

Dear Cabokate,

The number of attendants does relate to the formality of your wedding. Yours would definitely appear lopsided with that many bridesmaids. One issue that may help you decide on the number of attendants you include is that you two are financially responsible for the lodging of your attendants for at least two nights. Yes, that is the real deal and not just based on tradition. That is something we all have to "stick to". That cost would be a huge part of your budget.

Best wishes,
