wording destination wedding invites to include ceremony and at home reception
We are hosting a destination wedding in Mexico in February with a full reception there for guests. A lot of people say they are just going to make a vacation out of it, which is great, we love that. We will have a reception at home in June. I would like to invite everyone to Mexico, just because to me it seems improper to ask guests just to come to the reception at home. We are planning on a group activity for which we will pay. This will be an informal beach ceremony. Can I word the invitations to invite guests to both destination wedding and reception at home later? Then on the response card just have 2 spots to check one for the destination and one for at home reception?

Dear Kerrie,
It wouldn't be proper to list the second reception on the invitation or response card, as it is too early to invite guests to the second reception. But, you could include an enclosure informing your guests of the second reception. It would be like a save the date. Then your guests could decide if they want to travel or wait for the second reception. Send invitations for this 8 weeks before the date of the event.
It is proper to only invite guests to the reception though. It is just not polite or proper to invite them only to the wedding.
