There are different ways to do Hawaii, and all are subject to your budget. Norwegian cruise lines cruises the islands, so doing a combo cruise/land honeymoon is becoming popular. Maui is certainly one of the most popular destinations in Hawaii and we're often seeing Maui in combination with Kauai. Both offer great activities and sight seeing as well as beautiful beaches for just hanging out. I'd recommend finding a Hawaii honeymoon specialist to help you create a honeymoon to fit your budget and expectations. Honeymoon Experts at TheHoneymoon.com http://www.thehoneymoon.com
We went to Maui and Kaui. WE personally loved Kauai but please note that it is more laid back than Maui. They seem to roll up the streets, so to speak, by 11:00 in Kauai. If you want more details, just let me know I would love to help if possible.
But no trip to Hawaii will be disappointing. It is truly paradise.

If you have a limited amount of time I would go to Kauai... absolutely beautiful, relaxing, and just about anything you could dream of. If you do I recommed you rent an SUV or Jeep and find a path through sugar cane fields to off road on... you will find "hidden" beaches everywhere. If you have more than one week I would try to split up your time and either go to the main Island or to Maui, and Kauai. Maui is pretty, but more touristy and the main island is very historical. Also... this sounds pathetic but you should try to find the book "hawaii for dummies" (thats how i knew about the hidden beaches) and read it before you go. It has a lot of good tips on fun things to do while you are there and also a lot of suggestions on things to avoid and how to not stand out as the annoying tourist. If I can remember I think it even had a section specifically for honeymooners.
