We are trying to plan a honey moon in January and have 2 issues. 1st of all we are paying for all wedding expense ourselves and have little left over for a honeymoon. 2nd, we really don't know where to go in January. Prefer someplace warm, but with a budget under $1,000- not sure how far we can get!!

Congratulation on your upcoming wedding.
Two things determine how are you can get under $1000.
1. The time of January you are traveling. Before January 17 is considered peak travel season and your dollar won't stretch very far. After this date there is a considerable drop in prices. Peak travel is based on when the children are back in school from their breaks and if you can travel during this time you always save considerably. If you are thinking of the Islands now is the time to book because there are great specials running for Jamaica, Bahamas, and Cancun.
2. Where you are flying from. Markets like Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; and Miami, FL just to name a few have charter service to some of the most popular islands and these charters save you quite a bit in airfare. Now if you happen to be in one of Air Jamaica hubs they are having a sale to Jamaica right now and this is also helpful.
The best way to go is to consult a travel agent. Tell them your dates, your budget, and any criteria you have to make your honeymoon special and let them determine the destination based on what you provide them. If the agent is knowledgeable you will get something that fits your budget and your satisfy your honeymoon desires.
