We're planning a December wedding in CA and we would like to plan a honeymoon in the same month to the big island of Hawaii for 2 weeks. Do you have any suggestions or ideas on where might be some of the best places to stay without breaking the bank or if another one of the Hawaiian islands might be better? I like commercial settings and my sweety likes natural settings where he can hike and see waterfalls. We would like to meet somewhere in the middle for a good compromise.
My fiancee and I are very laid back and enjoy hiking about, sightseing, eating for sure is one of our favorite things, and lots and lots of lounging, so we don't need ton's of amentities while on vacation, but we would like a nice room to stay in since we are such lounge lizards who like to sleep in alot! Any economical ideas?

Hawaii is a wonderful place to honeymoon. Prices are lower the first half of December. You will notice a considerable jump in rates after December 17 until Mid January.
On the big Island you have several condo style resorts that offer reasonable rates: *Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort *Royal Kona Resort *Castle Hawaiian Hotel *Castle Kona Reef *Marc Kona Bali Kai *king Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel
Those are just a few suggestions. Hawaii has something for every budget.
You mentioned that you were open to other Hawaii islands. As an alternative to The Big Island you should also look into Oahu. They have many Aston, Castle, and Outrigger resorts that will price better than their conterparts on The Big Island. There is even a Renaissance property that prices very well.
Something to also consider is a Hawaii cruise. The longer 14 day itineraries usually spend more than one day at each island and a cruise offers you the luxury of really seeing all Hawaii has to offer without switching hotels, packing and inter-island flights. The ships offer many amenities to experience during the ngihts you sail to the next island, and meals are included.
Whatever your choice, 2 weeks on any of the Hawaii islands will be very memorable.
