does anyone know what the hot spots are in australia. we are trying to plan and have a whole bunch of places to choose from? anyone been and have suggestions?
Good choice, Australia is huge and so many different kind of thing to do that it really depend on what you want to experience and how much time you have.
If you are doing a short trip (7 days), base out of Sydney or Melbourne. You can take a few day excursions to experience some of the smaller areas.
If you have a little more time, I advise splitting up the trip. It is like the US if you come here from another country and spend all your time in New York, you still missed vastly different experience that would have been yours by adding Florida, Las Vegas, and Hawaii to your trip.
Same with Australia. Cairns and Queensland is a good add. I recommend visiting Dunk Island for a few days. There is so much to do there small one day cruises, hot air ballooning, rainforests, white water rafting, and so much more.
Travel agents are a good source for Australia. Finding one that has completed or is completing the Aussie Specialist program will prove invaluable.
As quickly as the world is changing, I hope that you will be taking plenty of pictures to share with family and friends. Looking back on our vacation pictures, I'm surprised to find how different the landscapes changed since visiting 5, 10, 20 years ago. It makes me downright nostalgic.
If you're concerned about taking your only good camera, considering renting a high resolution digital camera for a very reasonable amount and use that during your vacation. There are several outfits on the net that provide this service, plus provide the photo prints at a great price.
Keep in mind that if you are using a digital camera, if you want high quality prints from the images the pictures need to be taken at the highest resolution and pixel size. Many people shoot digital photography at 72 dpi to save space on their memory stick and save it as a compressed jpg, but when it comes time to have the photos printed the image looks terrible or below quality.
When you look at a newspaper color photo, notice how the dots of color have space between them? The higher the dpi (dots per inch) the better the picture printed. So, when the digital photos are taken, please keep this in mind. People often don't realize this because 72 dpi looks great on the computer screen and TV, but definitely does not translate well to the printed paper.
When jpgs are compressed image quality is lost. To prevent this from happening invest in several large file size memory sticks to hold your images. Some people travel with their laptop computers so they can access the internet from their hotels. If so, you can download your images to your laptop to ensure you have plenty of memory stick space.
