I am trying to plan a fun relaxed, budget friendly reception. My fiance and I are both very relaxed people who love to laugh and have a great time. Our wedding itself will not be a formal event. Of course he will wear a suit and I will be wearing a dress (though not a formal wedding gown). In the process of planning our reception we both decided that renting out a local bowling alley for a party would be a great idea since it would be fun, relaxed and kid friendly. Unfortunantly that plan didn't work and now we are back to square one. Does anyone have any ideas for a reception location that wont cost an arm and a leg?
Have you tried local VFW halls or Elks lodges? You can decorate as you like and usually they allow you to bring in your own foods and catering. I'm not sure if that sort of location fits the "fun" theme but it can be less costly than a formal banquet facility. Depending on the time of year, you might consider renting a miniature golf place as many have party facilities and "cater" to large groups. I've been to several in the Houston area that were very nice!

One had beautiful waterfalls and flowers situated in a park like setting, plus rock climbing walls, catering, etc. Some have ice cream parlours and restaurants on site as well. Some miniature golf and entertainment centers are located inside a large mall, and are available for private parties.
Choosing this type of venue would give you some great photo opportunities, including lush landscaping and water features. Copen Cabana DJ Audio Visual Production providing Custom Wedding Coffee Table Photo Book with DVD Services http://www.knowareland.com

Wow; great ideas. Mine isn't as wonderful, but here we go. Check with your local parks and recreation department. They rent rooms for their classes and sometimes have some for rent to individuals. These can be quite large with kitchen access. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
